Absonus Lab is a non-profit research studio and association based in Estarreja, Portugal. Founded in 2022, we serve as a dynamic hub where artists, researchers, and technologists collaborate to push the boundaries of sound through experimental creation and transdisciplinary dialogue.
Our work is grounded in the development of a post-digital technocultural ecosystem. We explore computer music composition, sound synthesis, algorithmic processes, and interactive systems, using everything from AI to custom-built technologies, to create new work in electronic, acousmatic, and performative music.
Strategically based outside major urban centers, we foster deep connections within Portugal’s Central Region while maintaining a vibrant presence on the international stage. We actively collaborate with institutions like the University of Algarve, CIAC, the Anna Lindh Foundation, and EMAP (European Media Art Platform). This decentralized model allows us to build a diverse, critical community that extends from our local context into European and global networks.
At Absonus Lab, sound is both our medium and our methodology for understanding the world. We invite composers, artists, and thinkers to join us in experimenting, creating, and shaping the future of sonic arts.

A transmedia artist and sound researcher exploring the liminal spaces where sound, technology, and human perception intersect. He is the Founding Director of Absonus Lab.
His research-creation practice interrogates the meta-political dimensions of contemporary sound, culminating in the development of post-techno aesthetics, a radical methodology that employs algorithmic uncertainty and machine agency to challenge musical conventions. This work is supported by a significant history of international exhibitions, residencies at ZKM | Hertz-Lab, and accolades including a Prix Ars Electronica distinction.
Paquete maintains an active research profile through affiliations with CIAC (UAlg/UAb), iAlab Sensoria (UBI), and the Biofeedback Art Research Network (Gray Area, SF). He holds a PhD in Digital Media-Art and has been supported by grants from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

A grant holder from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), he holds an Advanced Studies Diploma and a PhD in Musical Arts (FCSH/ESML). His works, premiered at international festivals and on prestigious compilations, explore the organ not as a relic, but as a living, breathing instrument for contemporary sonic exploration. At Absonus Lab, he contributes this unique perspective to our collective research into sound’s past and future.
